According to an IGN report from the movie set, King of the Monsters events will be unleashed after an incident involving the characters of Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown, who will be “kidnapped by a group of mercenaries looking for the ‘Orca’, a device developed by the character of Farmiga that allows a limited form of communication or control of giant monsters. ”
That is, this organization opposed to Monarch, the secret agency that until now has served as the guiding thread of the Monsterverse, would take control of Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and Godzilla himself.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat) who co-wrote the screenplay with Zach Shields.
